Ajaka recommends speech team as a confidence booster
by Robert Stewart, Director; Professor
Broadcast journalism senior Nadine Ajaka will graduate this month with some unique awards under her belt: Champion in duo interpretation, third place in poetry interpretation, semifinalist in rhetorical criticism, quarter-finalist in dramatic interpretation and duo interpretation, and sixth overall among students who competed in five or more events.
Ajaka earned these awards as a member of Ohio University’s award-winning speech and debate team at this past year’s National Forensic Association national tournament, hosted by OU this year. About 800 students from around the U.S. participated in this year’s NFA event.

Get some Soul
by Robert Stewart, Director; Professor
SoulofAthens.com launched last week. This is the sixth SoA project produced by the School of Visual Communication. That’s one per year since 2007. What’s different this year is the level of involvement by journalism students.
Out of 100 students involved, about 20% were from the School of Journalism. One of those, doctoral student Sally Ann Cruikshank, was a senior producer. In this video she describes the project, as well as her role.

MidDay signs off
by Robert Stewart, Director; Professor
When I interviewed for my job at Ohio University back in 1987, ACTV-7 News was one of the “classes” I observed. It was televised from Studio C in the RTV building, but moved to a studio in Scripps Hall shortly after I arrived on campus to teach.
A few years ago we renamed the program “Athens MidDay,” and moved it to Studio B in the RTV building, home of WOUB’s “Newswatch” program. Regardless of the studio, ACTV-7 News and MidDay were very important parts of the educational experience for broadcast journalism majors here at OU.
