What is RSS?
"RSS is an acronym for Really Simple Syndication and Rich Site Summary. RSS is an XML-based format for content distribution. Webmasters create an RSS file containing headlines and descriptions of specific information. While the majority of RSS feeds currently contain news headlines or breaking information the long term uses of RSS are broad." [source]
Major news media companies such as the New York Times make many of their content sections RSS "readable" as separate feeds. Off the shelf blog sites such as Blogspot, Wordpress and Livejournal also make it easy to export a feed. The local news aggregator athensi.com gathers and organizes content using RSS feeds from Athens-area media and blogs.
