Sweeney's latest book published by National Geographic Press
A new book by journalism Professor Michael S. Sweeney examines optical and cognitive illusions and what they reveal about the workings of the human brain.
Brainworks: The Mind-bending Science of How You See, What You Think, and Who You Are, published by the National Geographic Press, arrived in bookstores last month. It was featured on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report on Sept. 15 and is a companion to the three-part television special Brain Games, currently airing on the National Geographic Channel. Magician David Copperfield wrote the foreword.
Sweeney has written more than 10 books for the National Geographic, including an earlier book about what new scientific research reveals about the brain.
Barnes and Noble’s review of Brainworks says, "In vivid, user-friendly language and unforgettable illustrations, this coffee table hardcover guides you through the near miraculous cerebral sleight-of-hand that make our sights, sounds, and memories intelligible to us. To achieve that goal, author Michael Sweeney draws on the expertise of scientists and researchers from fields including neurology, psychology, chemistry, audiology, and ophthalmology."
