When Ohio University switches to semesters in 2012, students who would have selected the online journalism sequence in the quarter system will be in the News and Information track.
Students in this track can select courses that focus specifically on online journalism, but they also have the option of choosing a wider array of courses (e.g., broadcast news, news writing and editing, magazine journalism, etc.) to more broadly prepare for the changing industry.
Students with a strong online journalism interest prepare for the new digital world of electronic journalism with hands-on courses, working on any number of campus and local media with websites (e.g., The Post, WOUB News, the Athens News, speakeasy.com, etc.), as well as through internships.
Students can begin volunteering with campus and area media as early as their freshman year,
Students intern with news organizations throughout the region as well as with national and even international media outlets. Students also gain exposure to issues in the field through participation in organizations such as the Society of Professional Journalists.
