  • From Sequence (quarters) to Track (semesters)

When Ohio University switches to semesters in 2012, students who would have selected the public relations sequence in the quarter system will be in the Strategic Communication track. Students in this track can select courses that focus specifically on PR, but they also have the option of choosing a wider array of courses (e.g., advertising, online journalism, magazine journalism, etc.) to more broadly prepare for the changing industry.

Students with a strong PR interest are prepared through the professional practice of public relations. Students learn the theory and practice of public relations and its role in contemporary society and develop the knowledge and skills to prepare them for a wide range of career options. In addition, a required internship and the opportunity to work with real-world clients in the capstone course and through the award-winning student-run PR agency, ImPRessions, provide valuable professional experience.

Membership in Ohio University's award-winning chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), the student organization affiliated with PRSA, the major US public relations professional society, is encouraged and provides interaction and networking with Ohio professionals. The mix of courses and extra-curricula activities prepares well-rounded public relations practitioners. Our graduates work in agencies, corporations, non-profits, and government agencies in Ohio and throughout the nation.
