This person must display high journalistic standards and be prepared to cover stories alone which will require using effective interviewing techniques.  Due to the dangers inherent with the operation of an ENG van equipped with a mast,  this person must make safety “Priority One.”  The individual must be a good communicator, work well with others, and take direction from management regarding job performance and shooting/editing style and technique.</p>

ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS:  Advanced Education in the field of Broadcast Journalism which has given the applicant the ability to perform the required functions of the job or equivalent broadcasting work experience, which has prepared the applicant to perform the required functions of the job. Available 24 hours per day, seven days per week, and for extended periods of overtime, if needed.  Able to control high stress periods and heavy workload.  Valid Virginia Driver’s license within 30 days of employment.  Knowledge of journalistic standards as they relate to on-air presentation of news stories.  Accurate and comprehensive writing skills.   Ability to act and react appropriately on camera.   Ability to maintain professional personal appearance.  Ability to lift and transport standard camera equipment.  Available to travel overnight to off-site locations, including foreign destinations, for extended periods of time, if needed.  Access to an automobile if needed for transportation.</p>

The successful candidate will be passionate about Web journalism that engages readers in public affairs and community life. S/he will bring strong news judgment, familiarity with current media issues and best practices and good technical fundamentals. He or she will thrive in a team environment but also will exhibit strong individual initiative and a vision for improving our digital offerings.</p>

<p>
Responsibilities include working with content editors to maintain an updated and lively home page; maintaining a sense of competitiveness on breaking news of interest to sacbee.com readers; developing a sense of audience needs and interests and feeding those needs with content and timeliness that grows traffic and stickiness on the site; developing a personality for the homepage that encourages reader interaction.</p>

<p>
Tasks and desired skill sets include:</p>

<p>
Monitor multiple Web-based sources and regional competitors for real-time news</p>
<p>
ID best breaking news content to send alerts on, tweet, have posted to Facebook</p>
<p>
Monitor social media for updates and tips on topics, events and personalities of interest to sacbee readers</p>
<p>
Ensure all Web headlines and leads follow best SEO practices</p>
<p>
Experience with Photoshop, Flash and with Web scripting languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)</p>
<p>
Demonstrated ability to set and meet deadlines</p>
<p>
Familiarity with RSS, aggregation and social media</p>

The editor  will work directly with the programs producers, as an integral part of our team. This position is a great opportunity for a student to gain valuable media experience in our small team of reporter/producers.</p>
