<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Jim Murray Memorial Foundation will be awarding seven $7,500 scholarships to outstanding print journalism students, with emphasis on sports journalism, through a nationwide essay competition.</p>
<p>
	Who is eligible: </p>
<p>
	·Undergraduate students enrolled in print journalism, who will be a junior or senior for the fall 2008 quarter (preferably students entering his/her senior year will graduate in spring 2009 and not mid-year).</p>
<p>
	·Must be a U.S. citizen.</p>
<p>
	·Must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be enrolled as a full-time student.</p>
<p>
	·Applicant must show integrity of character, interest in and respect for his/her fellow humans, and the energy to use his/her writing talents to the fullest extent.</p>
<p>
	Scripps can nominate one student. Application materials are available from Debbie DePeel in Scripps 106 or can be requested through e-mail (depeel@ohio.edu). This includes the essay question. Application packets must be submitted by April 15.</p>

<p>
Eligibility:</p>

<p>
--juniors, seniors, or graduate students </p>

<p>
--must be attending college in the 2008-09 academic year</p>

--must be majoring in mass communications, journalism, radio, television, and/or film</p>

<p>
--must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be a US citizen of Arab heritage</p>

<p>
Applications are now being accepted from students pursuing a communications-related career for a competitive $2,000 scholarship offered by the Cleveland chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators.  The scholarship is open to Northeast Ohio college students (whether by permanent residence or place of study) who are pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or similar field at a four-year college or university offering a bachelor’s degree in these programs.  The scholarship, which will be awarded for the 2008-2009 academic school year, will include the opportunity to intern at a Cleveland-area non-profit. <p>
Are you qualified?  You must be a college freshman, sophomore, or junior planning a career in broadcast news and enrolled in an Ohio college or university during the 2007-08 school year.  Judging is based on your academic and/or professional achievements and your potential to become an outstanding broadcast journalist.</p>
<p>
Who decides?  This scholarship is offered and judged by the Ohio Associated Press Broadcasters, an organization of broadcast newsroom employees of stations served by The Associated Press.</p>
<p>
How do you enter?  Send a resume, tape and script demonstrating your best work, plus a 300-word essay on your career goals.  A letter of recommendation from a professor or internship supervisor also is required.  The letter must be in a sealed envelope, with the recommender’s signature written across the seal.  The material must be postmarked no later than Feb. 15, 2008.  The $2500 winner will be recognized at the OAPB’s annual convention on June 1. <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Overseas Press Club Foundation Scholarship Program is offering twelve $2,000 scholarships to students who aspire to become foreign correspondents at some point in their careers. They pay for the winners to come to New York City in February for an Awards Luncheon. They also arrange for several of the winners to have paid internships in the foreign bureaus of the Associated Press and Reuters, among others.</p>

<p>
The judges require that applicants submit a cover letter, resume and essay. The applicant’s name and school should appear at the top of each page. The essay of approximately 500 words should concentrate on an area of the world or international issue that is keeping with the applicant’s interest. It can be in the form of a story, news analysis or essay. Recent winners have written on such diverse topics as playing black jack on the Trans-Siberian Railroad, political activism in Morocco, and social upheaval in China. Applicants are also encouraged to submit essays showing a strong understanding of, or an interest in, global economic issues such as trade, finance, emerging markets, immigrations or environmental impacts.</p>

<p>
The cover letter should be autobiographical in nature, addressing such questions as how the applicant developed an interest in this particular part of the world, or how they would use the scholarship to further journalistic ambitions.</p>

<p>
Winners will be contact in December so that arrangements can be made for them to attend the Foundation Scholarship Luncheon in February.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Fox News announces its 5th Annual Fox News Channel College Challenge. This is a nationwide competition for undergraduate juniors and seniors majoring in journalism, broadcast journalism, communications or an equivalent. </p>

<p>
The Challenge requires teams of two-four students to research, write, produce and submit an objective broadcast news story from a list of provided topics. A panel from Fox News Channel, who are integral in the news gathering, production and presentation of news programming, will judge the entries.</p>

<p>
The winning team will receive the following:</p>

A $10,000 scholarship shared amongst the team members</p>

A $10,000 matching grant to the winning team’s school</p>

<p>
A trip to New York City to appear on Fox News Channel</p>
